DAN Provider/Inst. courses

DAN Provider and DAN Instructor courses

O2 Provider/Instructor;

Learn in a ½ day how to instruct divers and non-divers to recognize diving injuries and to provide Oxygen first aid treatment, from minor case scenarios of type I DCS with breathing responsive divers to dealing with multiple injured divers with type II DCS and non breathing. You’ll confidently be able to administer Oxygen 1st Aid, even in the dark!

First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries (HMLI);

Improve your first aid and secondary care teaching skills and learn how to educate both divers and non-divers to identify hazardous marine life, to recognize possible injuries caused by hazardous marine life, to provide first aid for hazardous marine life injuries and to avoid hazardous marine life injuries. This modular course takes a ½ day to complete and is essential for any diver who will be in tropical waters where jelly fish and other venomous creatures are found. Learn how simple treatments like hot water can be used to alleviate stingray stings or jelly fish wounds.

Onsite Neurological Assessment Provider/Instructor;

Learn how to conduct a neurological assessment on a potentially injured diver in this course. The information gained in this assessment can help convince a diver of the need for oxygen first aid, and help a dive physician determine the proper treatment. Approximately two-thirds of divers with decompression illness have evidence of damage to the nervous system. These signs are often vague and can go unrecognized by the diver. This can cause them to be dismissed as insignificant or not dive-related. This program focuses on how to obtain essential information about a diver involved in a dive emergency and what information to relay to emergency medical services. Only medical professionals should diagnose medical conditions. The information you gather while performing a neurological assessment will be useful to help the dive physician understand the extent of the injury and how it has changed in the time it took to get the diver from the dive site to definitive care.

Basic Life Support for Dive Professionals (Instructor);

The remote nature of dive accidents, whether a few hours from shore or days from civilization, frequently requires more advanced levels of care than are offered by traditional or entry-level CPR programs. DAN Instructors and Instructor Trainers will now be able to offer a healthcare provider-level basic life support program for their student and divers, called Basic Life Support for Dive Professionals (BLSPRO). This program is ideal for dive professionals and divers interested in understanding professional-level resuscitation techniques. This program is designed to be applicable to the diving market, including scenes and scenarios from dive situations, as well as the non-diving/healthcare market. When coupled with DAN’s existing Training Programs and the new Advanced Oxygen First Aid program, DAN Instructors and Instructor Trainers will now be able to offer a complete diving emergency program. This program also addresses basic life support skills for adults, children and infants. Skills learned in this program which set it apart from lay-provider level CPR courses include:

  • two-person CPR;
  • ventilation using a bag valve mask;
  •  finger sweep;
  • suctioning;
  • cricoid pressure
  • technique for caring for an unconscious choking victim.

If you find that traditional CPR/1st aid courses are too limited in the scope of medical care that you would like to teach, then you’ll benefit by qualifying as a ‘BLS for Pros’ Instructor in just 1 day. This course can also be used for legal requirements in the work place or for regulatory measures when more ‘lay person’ based 1st aid programs are unsuitable.

We can offer a package of 4 of these programs to qualify you as a DAN ‘Diving Emergency Management Provider’ Instructor. This offers time and cost savings and allows you to teach a comprehensive package. These courses can be scheduled on demand. Please contact us for specific costs.
